Single-Hung Windows in Tulsa, OK

The look of a classic double-hung, usually for less. Only the bottom sash moves, so there’s less to adjust and less to wear out.

How a single-hung window works

From the street it looks almost like a double-hung. The difference is that the top sash is fixed and only the bottom one slides up. In most bedrooms and living rooms, that’s all you need.

Single-hung or double-hung?

The trade-off is the top sash. On a double-hung you can lower the top to let hot air out near the ceiling; a single-hung only opens at the bottom. The fixed top pane also gets cleaned from outside, which is easy on the ground floor and a good reason to pick double-hung upstairs.

Plenty of homes mix them: single-hung where a simple window does the job, double-hung or casement where you want more air.

Glass and color

Dual-pane Low-E glass suits most homes, and triple-pane is available. Pick a frame color to match your trim, and grids if you like them.

Common questions

Do single-hung windows cost less than double-hung?

Usually, since only one sash moves. Size, glass and how many windows you’re doing matter too, so your written estimate is the number to go by.

My old windows slam shut or won’t stay open. Will new ones fix that?

Usually. A sash that drops has worn balances, the spring parts in the side of the frame that hold it up. A new window comes with new ones, and we test it before we leave.

How do I clean the outside of the top pane?

From outside: by hand on the ground floor, or with an extension pole higher up. On many models the bottom sash tilts in, so that pane can be done from inside.
